First brachiopods in lab!

A happy moment in any geobiology lab is the first day brachiopods are present in lab. This week we received a collection of living Terebratulina septentrionalis from Maine. Graduate student Tom Boag has been measuring their Pcrit levels, with an eye towards understanding oxygen/temperature co-limitation in the geological past, while post-doc Aodhan Butler is sequencing their transcriptomes for his phylogenomic study of brachiopods and phoronids.
